Meet the Founder of Raceline Coaching.
Hello, I'm Dan, an ex-elite cyclist, and the founder and head coach of Raceline Coaching. I’ve been coaching riders worldwide for nearly seven years, helping them progress to international programs, British elite teams, and UCI teams. Writing blogs is something I enjoy, and I hope this one resonates with parents and fellow cyclists alike.
Why do I do this? It's simple: because I care. I care about helping riders achieve the dreams I once had. There’s something deeply fulfilling about guiding them toward that goal. Coaching has never been about money for me. It all began in 2018 when I was injured and unable to ride. I remember my first rider, Ben, completing training over Google Docs. That’s when I caught the coaching bug.
Reflecting on my own journey as a rider, I realise I probably missed out on opportunities. The Welsh Academy was a great start for me, but I lacked direction from coaches, and I didn’t push myself to take ownership of my outcomes. Now, as I look back, I understand how important community is in this sport, and that’s what I want to provide for my riders.
As a junior, I was competitive, racing against some of the best, and I often thought, “Next time, I’ll get Pidcock.” I got close, but lacked that finishing touch. Now, with seven more years of experience, I understand what was missing: confidence. And that’s what I strive to instill in my riders.
I also believe that being younger helps me build stronger relationships with riders. Compared to other coaching firms, I think the training itself is just a small part of the equation. The belief, communication, and trust between a coach and rider are what truly matter. That connection is everything, and it's what I aim to create with each of my athletes.
What’s next for Raceline Coaching? My goal is to build it into the biggest coaching firm in the world. I want Raceline to be the coaching firm that leaves no stone unturned in helping its riders reach their full potential. I’m dedicated to supporting cyclists globally and ensuring they have everything they need to succeed.
