Our FAQ’s

  • Do I have to race?

Not at all! Race Line Coaching supports cyclists with diverse aspirations. Whether you're aiming to enhance fitness, challenge your personal best on local rides, or simply enjoy the joy of cycling without a competitive focus, our coaching is tailored to your individual goals and preferences.

  • No limits here. Our coaching extends to a diverse range of individuals pursuing various objectives. Whether your aim is weight loss, completing a century ride, enhancing fitness, participating in a sportive, trying a triathlon, or bike racing, Race Line Coaching caters to your aspirations. The only prerequisite is a passion for cycling and a desire for improvement.

  • The essentials start with a bike! Beyond that, it's a matter of personal preference and budget. While a heart rate monitor and indoor trainer (Turbo) offer benefits, they are not mandatory. We work with what you have, ensuring your coaching experience aligns with your resources and goals.

  • Life is unpredictable, and obstacles may arise, preventing you from completing sessions as prescribed. Whether it's a family commitment or adverse weather conditions, we understand. Simply communicate with us, and we'll provide a flexible solution tailored to your situation.

  • Certainly not. Race Line Coaching welcomes individuals with varying schedules. All you need is a goal in the sport and a commitment of time each week, ranging from 5 to 30 hours. Whether you're a full-time professional or balancing multiple responsibilities, our coaching adapts to fit your lifestyle and ambitions.

  • Training is conveniently managed through Training Peaks, our specialised online portal designed exclusively for you. Each rider receives a personalised username and password, granting access to view prescribed training, upload completed sessions, and provide valuable feedback, fostering a collaborative coaching experience.

  • Tailored Training Plans for Diverse Goals:

Customisation: A cycling coach will analyse your current fitness level, skill set, and personal goals to create a customized training plan. This involves tailoring workouts to address specific weaknesses, build on strengths, and accommodate your lifestyle and schedule.

Periodisation: Coaches often employ periodisation techniques, dividing your training into distinct phases to optimise performance, prevent burnout, and ensure peak fitness during targeted events or races.

  • Training plans" and "coaching" are related concepts in the realm of sports and fitness, particularly in activities like cycling. However, they differ in terms of the level of guidance, personalisation, and ongoing support they provide to individuals. Here's a breakdown of the key differences between training plans and coaching:

    1. **Training Plans:**

    - **Structure:** A training plan is a structured set of workouts and exercises designed to help individuals achieve specific fitness or performance goals.

    - **Pre-Designed:** Training plans are often pre-designed and follow a general template. They may be available online or through fitness apps, targeting various fitness levels, durations, and goals.

    - **Self-Guided:** Users follow the prescribed workouts independently. There is minimal interaction with a coach or trainer, and the responsibility for adherence lies with the individual.

    2. **Coaching:**

    - **Personalisation:** Coaching involves a more personalized and dynamic approach. Coaches tailor training plans to the individual's unique needs, taking into account factors such as current fitness level, goals, schedule, and personal preferences.

    - **Guidance and Support:** Coaches provide ongoing guidance, support, and feedback throughout the training process. They may adjust the plan based on the individual's progress, address challenges, and offer motivation.

    - **Communication:** There is regular communication between the coach and the individual, allowing for a more responsive and adaptive training experience. This communication can occur through various channels, including in-person meetings, phone calls, emails, or virtual platforms.

**Choosing Between Training Plans and Coaching:**

    - **Training Plans:** Ideal for individuals who are self-motivated, have a clear understanding of their goals, and prefer a more independent training approach. It's a cost-effective option with ready-made plans.

    - **Coaching:** Suited for those seeking a personalized approach, accountability, and ongoing support. This is beneficial for individuals with specific goals, varying fitness levels, or those navigating challenges that may require adjustments to their training regimen.

Ultimately, the choice between training plans and coaching depends on individual preferences, goals, and the level of guidance and support needed to achieve desired outcomes in activities like cycling.

  • A cycling coach helps you train smarter, not harder, by providing a personalised plan tailored to your goals, fitness level, and lifestyle. They offer expert guidance, keep you accountable, and use data to optimise every ride.

Coaches save you time by focusing on quality over quantity, ensuring sustainable progress while balancing training with your other commitments. Whether you’re chasing a race win, increasing your FTP, or improving overall fitness, a coach helps you unlock your potential and enjoy the journey.
